Mass shooting in the United States is not something that would strike anyone as unusual. America is literally “under the gun.” But a mass shooting somewhere in South Africa might have many people scratching their heads.
Thars exactly what played out recently in Gugulethu, where a mass shooting left to three dead and one injured.
In what has been considered murder and attempted murder, three persons were shot dead and one person injured inside a house at NY112 on Saturday, 14 January. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown at the time of writing.
The authorities have, however, confirmed the incident, with Gugulethu Police Station spokesperson Sgt. Sindisiwe Ngqele giving clues into what went down on the day of the incident. According to Ngqele, three men died on the scene of the shooting while one person was injured and rushed to the hospital, where he is recuperating.
Ngqele also noted that at least 11 cartridges were found on the scene of the shooting.
Bongani Ngcombolo, ward 40 councillor, also acknowledged the incident, describing it as shocking and also giving insight into similar crimes that have taken place in the area in the past.\
It remains to be seen what the outcome of the investigations will be.
