My name is Carlos Mongrut. I was born in Peru and have been living in the United States of America since 1999. When I was 17 years old, I discovered my true vocation for music and decided to learn how to play the piano. In my childhood, I was part of the choir of my high school, played the accordion and wrote poetry. I registered to take piano lessons at a small music school I found on the local phone directory. After my first class with Pianist and Composer Aldo Guardia, my mentor and beloved friend, my life changed forever. He impressed me with his personality and amazing knowledge and talent! I waited for him at the end of the class (it was a dark and cold night of winter in Lima) and asked him to give me private lessons. He was kind enough to accept and once I learned how to play the piano with both hands, I brought him a draft of what would become my first composition in piano: Sensible Obra I. Since then, the direction of my instruction changed from formal piano learning to composition in piano.

We spent the next five years analyzing music theory, melody, harmony, rhythm, music structure, etc. We laughed, argued and enjoyed gourmet coffee, spent hours and hours going over compositions, lyrics; listening to Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninov and other amazing classical music composers. Then, I composed Sensible Obra II and III; followed by songs “Donde Estan” (“We Can Try” English Version), Tiempo Para Mi, Cerebro Hecho Mil and others. On the other hand, I became a member of the Peruvian Association of Authors and Composers APDAYC. At the same time, I joined the Drama and Modern Dance Groups of the University of Lima, while studying Business Management. In 1997, I played live on stage, for the first time, during the modern dance play “No Todo Esquizofrenia” while performing as an esquizophrenic character who thought himself as a famous pianist. Sensible Obra I was the composition chosen for the play by the famous Peruvian Choreographer Beatriz Morachimo.

During the same year, Aldo introduced me to his good friend the opera singer Sonia Pereyra and I learned the secrets of correct breathing and vocal techniques with her. Moreover, I started performing as the vocalist, keyboard and bass player for a few rock bands. We played in theaters, music festivals, radio and TV. In 1999 I moved permanently to Florida, my home in the United States; land I came to love after spending two years studying at Miami Beach Senior High School in 1991 and 1992. My debut as an artist in USA was as a cast member of the Musical “CHICAGO” at the Lyric Theater in Stuart, FL in July 2000, with Musical Director Peter Jones. I was able to perform over ten different characters on the show but my only musical contribution was doing the whistling parts of Peter Jones’s character, the lawyer Billy Flynn, backstage. It’s funny to remember, how one day the director of the orchestra stopped the rehearsal to ask who the guy who can whistle like that was.

In 2005, the International Library of Poetry released my poem “The Dance” to the market. With artist friend the Peruvian-American Singer-Songwriter “Gianpaul” I made my debut singing in Spanish for the Latin communities of Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. It was in 1996, when I discovered music software and I started experimenting with electronic music. Then, I released my first EP as “CMongrooves” called Lucid Dreams but that’s a different story. My first EP as Carlos Mongrut was released to the online market in June 2008 and it’s called “Lost Soul” under my own label Mongrooves Productions. In this production, there are compositions like: “Lost Soul”, inspired by the incidents of the massacre of Virginia Tech, “Don’t Be Afraid”, by the fatal accidental of a 19 year old co-worker, "We Can Try" and "Black Snow". A very dramatic production!

In September 2008, I released “Sensibles” (I through VI). These compositions can be found on itunes, Napster, Rhapsody, eMusic and other online retailers. Moreover, you can listen to them at Reverbnation (www.reverbnation.com/carlosmongrut), myspace (www.myspace.com/carlosmongrutthecomposer) and Ubetoo (www.ubetoo.com/carlosmongrut) to mention some of my websites. At this moment I’m recording “Tomorrow EP and Sensibles VII, VIII and IX) at Homeland Studios in Boca Raton. My Music Engineer and friend Zach Brown has been a key factor in the success of my recordings. He also arranged the strings for “Don’t Be Afraid” and “We Can Try.” All of my recordings are made using a REAL Piano and powerful microphones. Then I became a member of BMI.

Last year, I moved to Orlando and decided to start performing for the Community. With already several performances at the Main Public Library Downtown Orlando I have gotten inspired to tell my stories to the World! Let’s see what comes up next. I would like to thank ALL my fans, labels, family and friends for their continuous support!

Best Regards,

Carlos Mongrut
