Scorpion Kings (Kabza De Small & DJ Maphorisa) With EP & Album Projects Contributed To Amapiano Scene

Here’s a full list of all the Amapiano EP and Album projects that have been released by Scorpion Kings (Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa) so far.

We know it feels like that but it hasn’t been long since Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa announced their partnership. The two revealed that they had partnered up to form a duo called Scorpion Kings. Following their debut to the scene, the duo became responsible for some of the biggest Amapiano hits to take over the airwaves. Indeed, the aim of the new partnership became quite obvious after they had flooded the airwaves with amazing Amapiano tunes.

It would seem that with every blink of the eye, the duo drops a new song to the airwaves. Thanks to their contribution, Amapiano has become the reigning king of all genres in SA right now. Each day, a new recruit joins the charge and delivers even more hits to the airwaves further broadening its reach. That’s how much the two Disc Jokeys have popularised the genre.

Following their debut in 2019, things got more interesting as they followed up with more songs and even better features. We must say, they proved that they had come to stay with the release of “Amantombazane” featuring Samthing Soweto and MFR Souls. The song fast became one of the biggest songs in the country after its release.

They have since followed it up with even bigger hits, and features from notable names including Busiswa, Sha Sha, Cassper Nyovest, to mention a few. In under one year, Scorpion Kings have dropped a total of 6 musical projects, all of which have been huge successes.

They first announced their dominance with the “Scorpion Kings EP”, and Mzansi responded by eating up, and later on, followed it up with the other albums. Here’s a rundown of all 6 projects.

In July 2019, Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa delivered their first ever joint project as Scorpion Kings to the airwaves. They titled it the “Scorpion Kings” EP, introducing themselves to Mzansi with the project. It came laden with 8 solid tracks and amazing features.

The EP’s first track, “Amantombazane” featuring Samthing Soweto and MFR Souls became one of the biggest hits of the year. Other artists who contributed to it includes Bontle Smith, Dlala Munshiqisi, Professor, Vigro Deep, Kaybee Sax, Sandy Mrd, Mohao, and Tsitso.

Kabza De Small, and DJ Maphorisa crowned their introduction as a duo with the release of the “Scorpion Kings” album. It certainly couldn’t get any better than that. The two proved themselves to be worth every hype as they crafted all on the tracks on the album into masterpieces.

It came with new tracks added to some previously released ones. Featured on the album were Moonchild Sanelly, Leehleza, Mark Khoza, Sha Sha, Mhaw Keys, Tsitso, Kanyisa Jaceni (on a bonus track), and more. The album was equally praised for its stunning production and the performances of the featured acts.

Following the massive success of their first collaborative project, Scorpion Kings EP, the talented duo announced a second EP just months after. Maphorisa revealed via social media that they were already preparing a followup EP for release. He also hinted that they had snagged features from Thandiswa Mazwai and Busiswa on the song “Abuyile Amakhosi” which was expected to be on the EP.

As announced by him, the album dropped in November 2019 to massive acclaim. Fans gobbled it up as usual further increasing the genre’s dominance on the airwaves. The EP also featured contributions from Semi Tee, Mlindo The Vocalist, TallArseTee, Focalistic and more.

In January 2020, the duo took to the airwaves yet again with the release of another project. They titled this one the “Scorpion Kings Live” album. Just as its title implies, it only features songs played live. This time around, they had enough featured artists to create a Live concert.

Contributing to the album were Samthing Soweto, Mas Musiq, Aymos, Howard, Cassper Nyovest, Snowdeep, Vyno Miller, Qwesta Kufet, Myztro, Robot Boii, and more. The album also featured a Live remix of “Everything I Wanted” by Billie Eilish.

Two months ago, DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small thrilled fans with the release of several projects. It was enough to close the entire year. One of the projects was the “Once Upon A Time In Lockdown” album. It was indeed Amapiano at its best. The album came laden with 15 stunning tracks and amazing features.

Contributing to it were some of their frequent collaborators including Busiswa, Sha Sha, Mark Khoza, Kamo, Buckz and Howard. Newcomers  Adrienne Foo (Swaziland), Shiba, Les-Ego also contributed to the album.

This is certainly one of our favourite projects released by Scorpion Kings. The “Piano Hub” album was released in October 2019, and housed a total of 10 tracks. Both old and new acts contributed to the album. They include Howard, Corry De Groove, Mas Musiq, Lihle Bliss, Mhaw keys, Njelic, Bontle Smith and Vyno Miller.

The album fast became a hit among their fans and music lovers within and outside Mzansi. With this one, they continued the stretch of their dominance on both the airwaves and the charts.
