Busta 929 “Ngixolele” Featuring Boohle Review

Busta 929 certainly didn’t come to play when he dropped the new “Umsebenzi Wethu Vol 2 EP”. While announcing the project weeks back, he revealed that it would be a tribute to his friend, colleague and collaborator, Mpura, who passed on a while ago. The two were known to be good friends when Mpura was alive.

The “Umsebenzi Wethu Vol 2 EP” came laden with six tracks and features from hitmakers including Lady Du, Almighty, Soulful G, Mgiftoz SA, Mzu M, Mpura, Thembii. N, Sje Konka, Zuma, and of course, Boohle. Boohle appears as a contributing vocalist in the song “Ngixolele”, a feat she executes in the best way.

We love that Busta 929 and Boohle are the only ones who are credited to the song. The former, a prominent professional, handles the song’s production with finesse while Boohle effortlessly does what she does best as an acclaimed vocalist. Something is striking about her vocals in the music.

When compared to the massive hit song, “Siyathandana”, Boohle’s vocals are a bit stronger in this song. There was a softness to it in “Siyathandana”, but she chooses to show another side in “Ngixolele”. However, her high pitched adlibs prove that she’s still the lady with the vocals. She gives us two sides to her unique pipes, and we must confess, we are very much impressed.

The song’s production is also something to talk about. It screams everything that Piano is about, log drum included. The song begins minimally as some of the other tracks in the new EP. Boohle’s vocals ride the instrumentals like they are sown to it. The production also gets even more sophisticated as the song forges on. It also maintains a slow tempo all through. There is no doubt that Busta 929 and Boohle make excellent collaborators.
