Introduction

At a time when uncertainty is plaguing the world and many are uncertain which way to go, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) glitters like a lifeline for many, bringing them hope, taking them out of despondency.

What Does SASSA Do?

Established by the SASSA Act and signed into law 28 May 2004 by the South African president, SASSA has catered to the need of many since, with many in South Africa hailing it.

The SASSA, besides offering temporary grants, also offers care dependency grant, child support grant, disability grant, foster child grant, war veteran’s grant, grant-in aid, and old persons grant.

How To Benefit From SASSA

South Africans don’t just get grants. They have to apply for it. So if you need the money, you have to let the government know by filling out an application form online, via the SASSA website.

The Different Grants And How To Apply

There are different grants to apply for, depending on your current situation. At the moment, with South Africa under lockdown (level 3), the focus appears to be on the social relief grant from the SASSA.

To apply, visit the SASSA website (sassa dot gov dot za), click the social grant tab and select COVID-19 relief grant R350, tap the declaration link and follow the prompts.

In a statement, the South African Government claimed to have received approximately 12 million applications. Of this number, 6.3 million was declared valid/complete application.

If you’re unsure about your application status, you’re encouraged to confirm and to respond to messages from the SASSA immediately. The process takes just a few minutes.
