Rethabile Khumalo “Ntyilo Ntyilo” (ft. Master KG) Song Review

Here’s a review of Rethabile Khumalo’s beautiful song “Ntyilo Ntyilo” featuring Master KG.

First off, shout out to Mzansi vocalist, Rethabile Khumalo for forging her own path since the success of “Umlilo” with DJ Zinhle. Rethabile has since been on a rise, giving Mzansi her album, owning her sound and delivering good music to the airwaves.

A few months back, she dropped “Ntyilo Ntyilo” a song featuring Mzansi hit maker, Master KG. Of course, that means KG handled the production of the song. It’s no wonder it is so dancey. “Ntyilo Ntyilo” is not shy about being a dance track. Like every Master KG production, the beat leads the way. It first owns the space before Retha begins to sing.

Her voice then deliver sad lyrics. Imagine dancing to very sad lyrics and not even feeling sad. Rethabile sings about being deserted by her lover who she says took a plane and let her behind. She goes on to describe how much she has become an object of ridicule for her friends, and calls out for her parents. The song is centred on the pain of love. You can rephrase that to call it the pain of lost or unrequited love.

The “Umlilo” star understands what works for her, and makes it take the spotlight. That’s the strength in her vocals. We especially love how her vocals do not succumb to the sadness of the story, but makes it out in a way you would want to dance to. We would like to assume that it would be a different story if she ever did it acoustic.

The song is a jam. Master KG’s production is impressive as expected, and Rethabile’s delivery compliments it. They should definitely work on more music together. Now, imagine playing the song for a recently heartbroken friend; how do you think they’d feel?
