Born on the 28th of January 1988, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, popularly known by his stage name AKA is a prolific rapper, songwriter, record producer, and entrepreneur in South Africa.

His fans know AKA as SupaMega, Bhova, Mega, and Bhovamania. The rapper gained prominence after releasing his “Victory Lap” single, a track from his debut album   “Alter Ego” in 2011.

AKA has, since his debut gone on to release top-notch songs and studio projects that have gone platinum over time. In addition, the rapper recently launched his online T.V. station with the name AKATV, which can be accessed on various mobile devices.

AKA has collaborated with various top artists in the S.A. Hip-hop game. He has also performed on stage with international and local artists and created a unique brand for himself.


AKA is originally from Western Cape, Cape Town. The rapper was raised by his grandmother in Michell’s plain, and 1995, he moved to Johannesburg to stay with his mother, Lynn Forbes.


The rapper has a daughter named Kairo Owethu Forbes, whom he had with his ex, renowned DJ Zinhle. The rapper now co-parents alongside DJ Zinhle after their separation.

AKA is a college graduate. With a humble beginning, the rapper attended Holy Cross Convent in Cape Town while staying with his grandmother before changing to Greenside Primary school after relocating to Johannesburg to live with his mother. Later, he joined St John’s College.


AKA got his major music break after he released his “Victory Lap” singles back in 2011. However, music for his started at a very early age. AKA, alongside his two friends Vice Versa and Greyhound decided to form a hip-hop group called Entity back in 2002. The group became so popular it won various awards.

AKA fell in love with music production and decided to learn how to produce. This started his journey to Co-founding the production outfit “I.V. League” alongside two other members. The record label has gone on to produce songs for artists like Khuli Chana.

AKA also continued his success with the release of his chart-topping songs and his albums that were later certified platinum over time.

AKA launched a watermelon-flavored drink with the vodka brand Cruz in 2018; this was another major deal he signed upon debuting. He has worked alongside other brands like Reebok as well. AKA has created a brand that everybody wants to associate with.

AKA was in a relationship with fellow rapper Nadia Nakai before he was shot dead in Durban,  Before Nadia Nakai, his fiance was named Nelli Tembe, committed suicide at a hotel. He previously dated DJ Zinhle, who he has a daughter with, and separated in 2019. The rapper was also once romantically involved with the famous T.V. personality Bonang Matheba.
