Dan Malesela is one of South Africa’s most influential football coaches. He has been one of the significant contributors to the Absa Premier League for two decades, helping the growth of the South African Football scene. He has helped raise and mentor incredible talent. He is credited with having inspired rising clubs like TS Galaxy FC to defeat top South African football clubs like Kazier Chiefs.

Dan Malesela is a happily married man. Not much is known about his wife, but she is believed to be his closest friend. His children are named Boitumelo, Bokang, Thatego, and the late Katlego. His son, Katlego, passed away a few days after news broke that TS Galaxy FC player Thembinkosi Mbamba had died in a road accident. Katlego, Dan’s eldest son, died at the age of 37. Dan Malesela led Chippa FC to victory against Amazulu Fc in a 2-0 win on August 22nd, 2017.
He was the manager of TS Galaxy FC when the club defeated football giants Kazier Chiefs in a 1-0 win. The club won the NedBank Cup, accompanied by an R7 million win.
Football & Coaching Career
Dan Malesela first worked as a manager for United FC from 1st July 2012 to 1st December 2013. He left the club and became the manager of Mamelodi Sundowns for two years. His contract with the club ended in 2015.
On July 1st, 2015, he became the manager of the All-Stars, but he left a few months later, on the 26th of November in the same year. He was contracted as the assistant manager of Chippa United on December 3rd, 2015. He served in the position in March 2016. He was promoted to the managerial role on March 21st, 2016.
He left Chippa United on August 22nd, 2018. The club hired and fired him three times. In an interview, he advised club owners to stop underrating the efforts of coaches. He stressed that it takes some time for it to bear fruits. He said,
“It is a difficult thing; you need to have an understanding as an owner, you need to be able to see beyond the results; it will be visible to see if the coach is going in the right direction. Sometimes this game relies on luck – a coach is doing well, but there are no results; as an owner, you ask how do we help him.”
On September 3rd, 2018, Dan Malesela became the manager of TS Galaxy FC. Although his contract was for two years (June 2020), he resigned before it ended in February 2020. The club shot to fame in 2019 under his leadership. He left after the club was disqualified from the NedBank Cup in 2020. A statement on the club’s website showed that their poor performance prompted Malesela’s resignation.
