Biography

DJ Chynaman is a popular Johannesburg/Durban-based South African DJ known for releasing Afro House and Deep House songs. He has worked as a radio DJ, toured all over South Africa and the world performing sets, and is also known for his work as an entrepreneur. In July 2020, he began his acting career, joining the cast of Uzalo as its newest member.

He has released several hit songs including “Million Times” featuring Happy, “Keep on Trying” featuring Letoya Makhena, and more.

He has also released 4 successful albums, all of which have done really well in South Africa, and parts of African continent.

Family & Beginnings

Siyabonga Gumede aka DJ Chynaman was born in Northen Kwazulu Natal in the heart of Sundumbili. He began his music career in 1996 with an interest in drums and several other instruments including the flute and the saxophone.

He started out performing in small gigs in Mandeni while also working for SARS. As his passion for music grew, he finally left SARS to pursue a full-time career in the music industry.

Later on, he joined a radio station, P4 (now Gagasi FM) where he hosted a show discussing music and playing various styles of House  music. He also organised shows at various venues including SKYBAR ,Azar, Plush , 47^TH Avenue in Durban. He became involved in corresponding with international artists and South African artists including Black Coffee, Nick Holder, Euphonik, Nasty C and more.

DJ Chynaman began touring internationally in 2016 hitting spots in New York, Dublin, Amsterdam, Dubai, Namibia, Mauritius, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and more.

Education

DJ Chynaman has been in the entertainment scene for over two decades and has never spoken up about his education. He chooses only to talk about things involving his entertainment and business careers.

Musical Milestones

DJ Chyaman has been in the SA music industry for over two decades, since 1996. He is credited for his work with several notable names including Black Coffee, DJ Tira, DJ Sox, Nick Holder, Harrison Crump, Sai and Ribatone ,Culoe De Song, Zakwe, Dj Bongz, DJ Fresh, Kyle Deutsch, Letoya Makhene, Happy, Mampintsha, Kususa, and more.

He has toured several international countries, African ones included performing sets. In 2018, he toured Ibiza and Germany to become acquainted with various types of music around the world.

He has released four successful albums, two compilations and two studio albums including Kata 1 (2007), Chynaman’s House (2008), and Chynaman’s House 2. One of them was released via Soul Candi Records and was certificated Gold.
