He was suspended from the Springboks squad in September 2022 following allegations of inappropriate behavior with the team’s dietician Zeenat Simjee. According to reports, Jantjies had spent the night away from the team at a separate hotel during the test series against New Zealand. This was reported to be an unusual practice for athletes. Further reports revealed that patrons at the hotel heard the two having sexual encounters and later arguing.
