Adedamola Adefolahan popularly known as Fireboy DML is a Nigerian singer and songwriter best known for his chart-topping debut album “Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps” which was released in 2019. Signed to YBNL Nation, an independent record label founded by Nigerian star, Olamide, Fireboy attained recognition following the release of his hit song “Jealous” which amassed millions of streams and received massive radio airplay. The song earned him the Listener’s Choice Award and a Song Of The Year nomination at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival.
Fireboy DML was born on February 6th, 1996. He is 24 years old.
Fireboy was born and raised in Abeokuta, where he grew up as a member of the choir. He has stated that he does not come from a family of artists. However, he acknowledged his love for the arts at a young age, and began writing poems in his adult life. He also knew he could sing at the age of 12. He has revealed that he never took singing seriously and never thought he could make money from it. He finally embraced his singing voice, and talent of writing songs while in the University.
Following his graduation from OAU, Fireboy planned to move back home to Abeokuta, but finally decided to move to Lagos to pursue a music career. While in Lagos, he lived with friends he made in the university, and attended Live music shows. Later on, he began making music with a friend who had music equipment in his home. He also began writing songs for people which he sold from N30k to N50k. He also released some songs on his own including “King”.
In 2018, Seyi Tinubu introduced Olamide to Fireboy’s music after which he reached out to him and offered him a record deal. In October of the same year, Fireboy signed to Olamide’s YBNL Nation. The signing was announced on Instagram.
Fireboy has stated that he decided to make his songwriting the quality that sets him apart in the Nigerian music industry. That worked quite well for him.
Fireboy’s breakthrough single “Jealous” was released as part of the collaborative album “YBNL Mafia Family”. It was later re-released in March 25th, 2019. The song was produced Cracker Mallo. A follow-up, “What If I Say” was released on June 14, 2019, after which “King” was re-released on August of the same year.
Fireboy’s debut album “Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps” was released in November 2019. It fast became a success earning millions of streams across various platforms. “LTG” amassed 6 million streams on Spotify alone after 3 days of release. He released his sophomore album “Apollo” in August, 2020. It also became a huge success.
Fireboy DML is signed to YBNL Nation, an independent record label founded by Nigerian Afro Beats star, Olamide. The label recently formed a partnership with international distribution company, Empire.
Fireboy has always spoken of his past relationships which have inspired a lot of his songs. However, he is not in any relationship. At least, not that we know about.
Fireboy DML is currently one of Africa’s most popular artists. He is constantly invited to perform at shows, proving that he has a steady income. However, a particular estimate of his networth is not known.
Fireboy DML attended both his primary and secondary schools in Ogun State where he was born. He also furthered his studies at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) where he graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA).
