Biography

Jub Jub is a popular South African Hip Hop artist known for his versatile music career. He is currently the host of the controversial hit show, Uyajola 9/9. He is the son of Jackie Maarohanye.

Jub Jub is credited to have released three studio albums all of which have been successes. He has been nominated for several music awards.

In December 2012,  Jub Jub was convicted of culpable homicide for the death of four children.

Family & Beginnings

Born and bred in Soweto, Orlando East in a family of 5, Jub Jub always nursed love for entertainment. Following his high school education at La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts in New York, he moved back to South Africa and joined the entertainment industry.

From 2006 to 2009, Jub Jub released three studio albums and several hit songs. In March 8, 2010, Jub Jub and his friend, Themba Tshabalala caused an accident engaging in a drag race in a public road while under the influence of hard drugs. This led to the loss of lives (4) and permanent damage on several school children.

Accident

Jub Jub was involved in a car tragedy in 2010 that killed four young people and shook the nation. On December 5th, 2012, the two received a 25-year jail sentence each for attempted murder and three related offences. They appealed the ruling in February 7th 2014, and on October 8th, a high court in Johannesburg weighed down the ruling to culpable homicide. This brought their sentencing down to 10 years from 2012 after which they were released on parole in 2017 after serving over 4 years in jail.

Uyajola

Jub Jub landed his first show following his release in 2017. The show, Uyajola 9/9 (Cheaters, South Africa) exposes cheating partners. He has since appeared and featured in several tv shows and films including Inside Info, KTV, Yo TG, Channel O, Lunar Cop, Full Court Press, Drive By, etc.

Education

Jub Jub became the first South African to get a scholarship to study at the popular FAME school, La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts. The school is located in Manhattan, New York.

Musical Milestones

Jub Jub has always had fan love. His debut album, The Rare Breed (2006) was well received in South Africa becoming a big success. “Good Time Of Your Life”, a single off the album was a hit in radio stations and TV music channels. He was invited to perform it at the 2006 Metro FM Music Awards.

His 2nd album, “My Shine” was released in 2007 and it sold over 150,000 units attaining Platinum status five times. It contained the hit single “Ndikhokhele”. The song was nominated for several awards including “Song Of The Year” at the 2008 SAMAs, and “Song Of The Year” at the Metro FM Music Awards. Jub Jub opened the show at the 2008 SAMAs. He has since dropped several hits songs till date.

Even after serving time, Jub Jub has won the hearts of many with his music and his show, Uyajola 9/9. Also, the show has made him a lot of enemies, painting him as a controversial figure. However, Jub Jub is beloved by many including the brands he works with.

Jub Jub has also performed at various music events and award shows. He is known for his energetic Live performances.

Relationships

Before his sentence, Jub Jub dated South African singer, actress, and businesswoman, Kelly Khumalo. Jub Jub and Kelly Khumalo have a son, Christian. Later on, the two split with Kelly Khumalo stating that Jub Jub abused her physically and emotionally. She revealed she didn’t want anything to do with him anymore and would raise her child herself.

Jub Jub confirmed his marriage to a mystery woman saying he wasn’t ready to open up about his wife. He stated that his wife is a private person and denied the accusations level against him by ex-girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo.
