Markus Johannes Jooste is a successful South African businessman and former CEO of Steinhoff International. Markus was reported in 2016 to be one of the wealthiest people in Africa, with a net worth of over $400 million. He is an avid horse breeder. In 2014, Markus joined forces with South African millionaire and businessman Christo Wiese and embarked on an aggressive international expansion program.

At age 27 met German entrepreneur Claas Daun. Daun coached him in business. Jooste convinced Daun to merge his and Bruno Steinhoff’s businesses in Europe in 1998. He became the company’s CEO in 2000.
