Easily one of the most controversial figures in South African music and dance, Moonchild Sanelly is a delight any day.

She was born into a musical family, so electing to pursue a career in music was pretty easy. Her brother is said to be a hip hop artiste and her mother  a jazz singer. Her cousins are reportedly kwaito champs.

Her career took off on a glorious note with a performance at the Durban University of Technology in 2006. This opened the doors of Gagasi FM, where she worked with King Siso on the show Poetry.

Her popularity soared following an appearance on an EP by celebrated DJ and producer Shimza. She has been on a consistent leap ever since, sustained in part by her controversial personality.

She has performed at the Shoko Festival in Zimbabwe, Primavera Sound in Barcelona, and at Coachella 2019.

Awards

Moonchild Sanelly has been nominated for a couple of awards including the South African Music Awards (SAMA), but there is no evidence she has won any.

Does this in any way mean she doesn’t have what it takes? Far from it!

Education

Details of Moonchild Sanelly’s education are not all available. She is said to have spent six years at the Linea Fashion Design Academy in Durban. The knowledge gained from her stint at the academy has influenced her music and of course her fashion sense

Although she’s never been married, the songstress already has three daughters. Their identities are not what she cares to share with the public. But it has emerged that her eldest child, a girl of 9, is named Wafika Twisha. Like her mother, she has a deep interest in singing and is reportedly working on an EP.
