Nomuzi Mabena is a South African rapper, fashion icon, and Television presenter professionally known as Moozlie. Born in Benoni, Gauteng, she emerged winner of the MTV VJ search in 2012 beating out thousands of applicants.
She has gone on to become a successful independent artist, releasing music via her own record label, Nomuzi Mabena Music.
Family & Beginnings
Nomuzi Mabena was born on September 22 1992 in Rynfield, Benoni, a small suburb in the East Rand, Johannesburg where she grew up. Nomuzi was raised by her parents alongside her older sister. She went to school at, and matriculated from St. Dunstan’s in Benoni.
Later on, she enrolled at Sandton Varsity College for a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. She left college to focus on a career in entertainment after being selected by the MTV Base VJ Search in 2012. She won the VJ search on October 20th 2012, and joined MTV Base as a new VJ. She also joined music label, Cashtime Life Records in 2014.
Nomuzi left MTV in 2016 to join VUZU and Channel O. The same year, she also left Cashtime Life Records. She featured on “Mbongo Zaka” by fellow South African rapper, Rouge. She was chosen as a new presenter for Vuzu’s flagship show, V Entertainment in the same year.
In 2017, the show stopped airing. She started her own label, Nomuzi Mabena Music under the SBE Projects Agency management. The same year, she released her debut mixtape “Versus” which was supported by three singles including “Recipe”, “Getting Cash” and “Bum Bum”, a collaboration with Gemini Major.
In 2018, the show, V Entertainment was revived on VUZU Amp (now, 1Magic), and she returned as a presenter alongside Somizi Mhlongo. Her debut album “Victory” was released on September 7th of the same year. It was supported by its lead single “Vatela” featuring Kid X.
Moozlie partnered with Volkswagen SA and Drive Dry in early 2019 to create an awareness campaign which dealt with reducing texting and driving. A shocking controversial video was created to support the campaign. It features Moozlie hosting an Instagram Live update during which she gets involved in a car crash.
Due to the video being release before the campaign was announced, it caused a lot of backlash on social media.
Nomuzi completed her initial schooling at the St. Dunstan’s College, after which she was accepted into the Sandton Varsity College. Later on, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a major in Communication Studies.
Moozlie’s debut mixtape “Versus” was released on October, 2017. Three singles were released off the mixtape to support it. They include “Recipe”, “Getting Cash”, and “Bum Bum” featuring Gemini Major.
In September 2018, Moozlie released her debut studio album titled “Victory“. The well received album was supported by the lead single “Vatela” featuring Kid X.

Moozlie is known for her energetic stage performances. She has performed at various events in South African, and out the country.
She is also quite popular on social media. She boasts over 1.1 million followers on Instagram alone. She once had an alleged car crash as she was Live on Instagram while driving. The Live post quickly went viral.
It was later revealed that the accident was staged leading to a lot of backlash from fans who were previously concerned for her safety. It turned out to be that the accident story was in partnership with Volkswagen to promote safe driving.
Mabena has not been with linked in romantic relationships with many men. In 2016, it was reported by News24 that she was dating Sbuda Motloung aka Sbudaroc. By the way, he’s her manager. They’ve been together for quite some time. The two were spotted kissing at an NBA All Star weekend this year (2020).
