Born in 1988, Asanda Lusaseni Mvana popularly known by the stage name Msaki. She is a prolific singer and songwriter in South Africa. Msaki does her music under the folk genre and also works with artists from other genres.
Msaki owns a record label named “One Shushu Day Artistry”, where she has recorded and release a lot of topnotch songs. Her feature on Prince Kaybee’s “Fetch Your Life” single achieved total success upon its debut.
Family & Beginning
Msaki is originally from East London, a city in the Eastern Cape Province. Music is definitely in her blood, as she was born into a family which appreciates music. Her father was DJ, while he was studying at the University of Fort Hare, while her grandfather was a known songwriter and composer.
Msaki through her life has lived in various places apart from East London, where she was born. She has lived in the areas like Cathcart, Butterworth, Nqamakhwe, Peddie, and Grahamstown.
Msaki’s growing up was all marked by her building her career in music, as she has always engaged in activities involving music, even through her college days.
Msaki is a University Graduate. She attended the University of Mandela after her matric, where she wanted to major in Law, but had to quit and later obtained a degree in fine arts at Rhodes University.
Msaki also attended Grahamstown to study in the field of Visual Art. After a while she attended the University of Leeds in London as an exchange student.
Msaki decided to focus on learning how to play the guitar instrument while she was a student at Leeds, before she returned back to Grahamstown in 2011
Msaki also attended the North Carolina University in the United States. It was at this point she made the final decision to pursue her music career fully.
Msaki as a vocalist has given so much prospect since her debut into the music industry. Her performance on the “Fetch Your Life” single was part of what made the song evergreen.
Music for Msaki started way back in 2008, when she joined an alternative rock band while studying in East London University. Msaki developed her music skills by learning how to play the guitar.
Msaki earlier in her career used to sell her music CDs from her car boot, before she was later approached by the singing duo, Mafikizolo, to help them in writing a song.
Msaki has performed on top stages with top artists like Nduduzo Makhathini, Salif Keita, Pops Mohammed, Madala Kunene, Vusi Mahlasela, Angelique Kidjo, Siphokazi Mohapi, Thandiswa Mazwai, the Blk Jks among others.
Msaki released her debut studio album tagged “How The Water Moves” in 2016. The album housed many topnotch songs.
