Biography

Olamide Adedeji, known mononymously as Olamide, is a Nigerian Hip Hop artist and also an Afro-pop artist. He is regarded as one of the country’s most prominent Hip Hop artists, having released a long list of hits throughout his successful music career. He is famous for singing and rapping in both English and Yoruba.

Olamide released his debut studio album, “Rapsodi,” while signed to Coded Tunes. His second album, “YBNL,” was released via his own label imprint, YBNL Nation. It features the popular singles “First Of All,” “Stupid Love,” and more. In November 2013, he released his third studio album, “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth.” It features the hits “Durosoke,” “Yemi My Lover,” and more. His seventh studio album, “Carpe Diem,” was released in 2020. It became the first Nigerian Hip Hop album to amass 30 million streams on Boomplay and 100 million streams on Audiomack.

Olamide is known for the famous slang “Every single was a hit,” referring to his list of hit tunes. He became the first Nigerian to sign an endorsement deal with Ciroc in July 2013.

Early Life & Career

Olamide Adedeji, a.k.a Olamide, was born in Bariga, Lagos State, Nigeria. He is the second of 3 children born to Pa Adedeji and his second wife, Ronke Osisanya Adedeji. His two siblings are named TemmyGold, and Eniola Olamilekan, popularly called DJ Enimoney.

In 2010, Olamide began his career by releasing his debut single, “Eni Duro.” He performed at The Hip Hop World Awards in the same year. He was signed to ID Cabasa’s Coded Tunes label and managed by Toni Payne. He left the label in 2012 and started YBNL Nation. He has released a total of 9 projects via the label. This includes seven solo studio albums, one joint album, “2 Kings” with Phyno, and an EP, “999”.

In February 2020, Olamide announced that his label, YBNL Nation, had signed a joint deal with international distribution company, Empire. He also revealed that his artist, Fireboy DML, and every other artist signed to YBNL would benefit from the deal.

Olamide’s father was named Pa Adedeji. The rapper has not said much about his father. According to reports, following the release of his album “Eyan Mayweather,” Olamide announced the passing of his father. He wrote on Instagram, “O God, who hast commanded us to honor our father and our mother; in Thy mercy have pity on the soul of my father, and forgive his trespasses; and make me to see him again in the joy of everlasting brightness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Rest well Dad.. Forever in my heart.
