Olamide Adedeji, known mononymously as Olamide, is a Nigerian Hip Hop artist and also an Afro-pop artist. He is regarded as one of the country’s most prominent Hip Hop artists, having released a long list of hits throughout his successful music career. He is famous for singing and rapping in both English and Yoruba.

Olamide released his debut studio album, “Rapsodi,” while signed to Coded Tunes. His second album, “YBNL,” was released via his own label imprint, YBNL Nation. It features the popular singles “First Of All,” “Stupid Love,” and more. In November 2013, he released his third studio album, “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth.” It features the hits “Durosoke,” “Yemi My Lover,” and more. His seventh studio album, “Carpe Diem,” was released in 2020. It became the first Nigerian Hip Hop album to amass 30 million streams on Boomplay and 100 million streams on Audiomack.

Olamide is known for the famous slang “Every single was a hit,” referring to his list of hit tunes. He became the first Nigerian to sign an endorsement deal with Ciroc in July 2013.

Early Life & Career

Olamide Adedeji, a.k.a Olamide, was born in Bariga, Lagos State, Nigeria. He is the second of 3 children born to Pa Adedeji and his second wife, Ronke Osisanya Adedeji. His two siblings are named TemmyGold, and Eniola Olamilekan, popularly called DJ Enimoney.

In 2010, Olamide began his career by releasing his debut single, “Eni Duro.” He performed at The Hip Hop World Awards in the same year. He was signed to ID Cabasa’s Coded Tunes label and managed by Toni Payne. He left the label in 2012 and started YBNL Nation. He has released a total of 9 projects via the label. This includes seven solo studio albums, one joint album, “2 Kings” with Phyno, and an EP, “999”.

In February 2020, Olamide announced that his label, YBNL Nation, had signed a joint deal with international distribution company, Empire. He also revealed that his artist, Fireboy DML, and every other artist signed to YBNL would benefit from the deal.

He is a recipient of several Awards, including multiple Headies, Nigerian Entertainment Awards, Nigeria Entertainment Awards, and more. He is credited for the successful careers of Fireboy DML, Lil Kesh, and more.

Family

Olamide was born into a family of five. He is the second of three children. Olamide and his siblings were raised by their parents in Bariga, Lagos, Nigeria.

Olamide is the second child of Pa Adedeji and his second wife, Ronke Osisanya Adedeji.

–Mother

Olamide’s mother, Ronke Osisanya Adedeji, was the second wife of his dad, Pa Adedeji. The rapper has not shared many details about what she did while alive. Two years after his father’s death, Olamide announced that his mother had also passed on. This was in January 2018, a little after he celebrated his son’s birthday. According to reports, she died after suffering an undisclosed illness. A source told TheNetNG that “He’s still coming to terms with the shocking realization that he’s now an orphan as his father died not too long ago.” He and his brother, DJ Enimoney, announced her passing on social media. Olamide’s post quoted, “There’s no goddess like a mother.”

Olamide’s father was named Pa Adedeji. The rapper has not said much about his father. According to reports, following the release of his album “Eyan Mayweather,” Olamide announced the passing of his father. He wrote on Instagram, “O God, who hast commanded us to honor our father and our mother; in Thy mercy have pity on the soul of my father, and forgive his trespasses; and make me to see him again in the joy of everlasting brightness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Rest well Dad.. Forever in my heart.”

Also, on his 2014 album, “Street OT,” he raps about his father in two tracks, “1999” and “Anifowose.” In the former, he opened up about his father getting shot by armed robbers.

-Wife

Olamide is married to Adebukunmi Aisha Suleiman. The couple met at the beginning of Olamide’s career. She is known to be his biggest fan and supporter and usually attends all of his Live shows. In 2015, he released “Melo Melo,” a song written and dedicated to her. It has since become one of his biggest hits.

Olamide has three children. His first two sons, Maximilian Boluwatife and Tunrepin Myles, are with his wife, Adebukunmi. Olamide also allegedly had a love child with former Beat FM presenter Maria Okan. Rumour is that he opted to abort the child, but Maria went ahead and had it. He is named Asaiah Monife Maria.

Olamide has two siblings, one sister TemmyGold and one brother, Eniola Olamilekan (who is also known as DJ Enimoney). DJ Enimoney is a professional Nigerian DJ who is best known as the official DJ for YBNL Nation, Olamide’s record label. He has collaborated with Olamide, Tiwa Savage, and many others.
