Biography

Ranga Piniel Chivaviro is a South African professional soccer player who is a forward for South African Premier Division side Marumo Gallants. He played for Witbank Spurs, Cape Town All Stars, and Ubuntu Cape Town before he signed for South African Premier Division side Baroka in the summer of 2018. Ranga was released by Baroka at the end of the season after spending part of the 2019–20 season on loan at TS Sporting.

Chivaviro signed for Kosovar side KF Trepça ’89 in March 2021. He exited the club at the end of the season. He returned to South Africa in September 2021 and signed with Venda FA, and left the club in June 2022, less than a year after signing. Two months later, he joined Marumo Gallants.

He was part of the Gallants team progressing to the 2022–23 CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals. They played a draw 1-1 against the Pyramids in Cairo. He gave his team a 1-0 lead early in the second half, but Pyramids leveled it with a stoppage-time penalty. Gallants won 1-0 to secure their semi-final place in the return leg in South Africa.

In 2021-22, Gallants played against Tanzanian Premier League champions Young Africans in the two-legged semi-finals, which was held in Tanzania but lost to them. With five goals each, Ranga Chivaviro and Fiston Kalala Mayele of Young Africans are the 2022–23 CAF Confederation Cup’s joint top goal-scorers.

In a comment to News24 in November 2018, the famous player revealed why some people thought he was a non-South African because of his name. He clarified, saying, “Some people think I am a foreigner, but I was born in Limpopo in Ga-Kgapane. My names are Shona, and the Chivaviro surname has nothing to do with my father’s Zimbabwean roots, but my mom is muVenda. My surname means a place where kings gather for their meeting.”

He also revealed his home language is Khlebedu, a dialect widely spoken in the far Northern parts of Limpopo, where he was born.
