Biography

Douglas Jack Agu was born in Enugu state, Nigeria but grew up partly in Lagos and Abuja. He finished his Primary education in Lagos. After his father’s death, he moved with his mother to Abuja. She was working with the Ministry of Health at the time.

Runtown achieved recognition following the release of his debut single “Gallardo” which would be the first single off his debut studio album “Ghetto University”. The song features contributions from Nigerian Pop star, Davido. “Gallardo” was nominated for and won “Best Collaboration Of The Year” at the 2014 Nigerian Entertainment Awards.

His debut album “Ghetto University” was released in November 2015, via MTN Music Plus through his label at the time, Eric Manny Entertainment. He earned a spot on the Top 5 Most Streamed Artists list on the portal after the album generated over N35m.

Runtown’s biggest hit, the self-produced “Mad Over You” was released in November 2016, and charted at number 38 on the Billboard Twitter Top Tracks chart. He revealed to Fader that the song was inspired by African beauty. It went on to become one of the most successful songs released by a Nigerian artist.

Runtown is credited to have written the hit song “Aye” performed by Davido. He has chosen not to say much about penning the song.

He left Eric Manny and started Soundgod Music Group in 2018 after his contract expired. In September 2020, he released “Kini Issue” a song from his yet untitled sophomore album.

Runtown is credited as one of many celebrities who led the EndSars protests in Lagos, Nigeria. The protest was to urge the Nigerian government to end Police brutality.
