STOGIE T’S BIOGRAPHY

Born 16th of August 1981, Tumi Molekane popularly known by his stage name Stogie T, is a prolific rapper and poet in South Africa. Stogie T was the top vocalist in “Tumi and the Volume” singing group, that was officially separated in 2012.

Stogie T later relaunched with is new stage name in 2016 and released his first solo album called “Stogie T”, which saw him feature the likes of Da L.E.S, Lastee, Emtee, Nasty C, Nadia Nakai & Yanga, as guest artists on the album.

Stogie T is known for spitting lyrical bars on his songs, this is evident from his singles and collaborative works. He has performed on stage with various South African and International artists. He recently launched his Friday Freestyle session in 2020, which saw him feature top and budding MCs in live rap sessions.

FAMILY AND BEGINNING

Stogie T is originally born in Tanzania, this was due to his parents (who are South Africans), being exiled to Tanzania. The rapper repatriated to South Africa in 1992 and Started living in Soweto. Stogie T grew into the South African system and started developing his passion for poem and rapping. Over time he was able to kick off his career.

MUSICAL MILESTONE

Stogie T got his major breakthrough after he released his first album, “Stogie T” which he used to introduce himself to the industry. The album did so well, he became am household name in the rap industry.

Stogie T over his debut, has released great songs among which are the likes of his “Trade Winds” song with Cincinnati based rapper, Main Flow In 2005. The rapper also released his debut single “Music from My Good Eye” through his record label (Motif records) in 2006. The single did so well that it was listed as greatest song of all times in South Africa.

Stogie T, over his career, has also performed with top South African artists like Nadia Nakai, Nasty C, Blk Sonshine, Keorapetse Kgositsile, Yanga, Watkin Tudor Jones, Lesego Rampolokeng. Saul Williams, Sarah Jones and Mutabaruka.

Stogie T has also worked alongside International artistes like Manifest from Ghana, whom he featured in his album and Chinese Man, a French Hip-Hop crew, and produced the album “The Journey” together in 2015.

Stogie T has done really well for his career since his debut into the rap scene. He is known as one of the best MCs in the game and is definitely living up to his title.
