Tems (Singer) Biography
Temilade Openiyi, who is known professionally as Tems, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer. She was born to a Nigerian mother and British father in Lagos on 11 June 1995.
According to Tems, music is her happy place, the only thing that makes her feel at home. So it was inevitable she should take to music.
The decision to leap into the world of music was taken when she was about 13. At the time she had already realized she was good in music, describing it during an interview as something that comes naturally to her.
Back in school, her teacher had noticed her singing talent and encouraged her
Tems singing talent has not only been acknowledged by the music community in Nigeria but but American RnB champ Chris Brown as well.
In a post to his Instagram Story in late December 2020, Chris Brown, who had been impressed by her singing, had described her as fire – really “…so so so fire.”
That fire had led to several international invitations including one that took her to Uganda alongside fellow musician Omah Lay.
In Uganda, she had been arrested alongside Omah Lay and taken to the slammer for violating COVID-19 protocols.
Her arrest had led to an outcry on social media, causing her to trend alongside Omah Lay until her release.
For one who is pretty new on the scene, the songstress has got an impressive catalogue. Among the songs she has released to date are “Ultra Happiness,” “Love Me Down,” “Twisted Tilde,” “Come Inn,” “These Days” and “Try Me.”
“Try Me” is probably one of her most popular songs to date. In fact, the song trended at the time it was released, thrusting her into the hearts of many music lovers across Africa. By the way, she also has a debut EP called “Music For Broken Ears.”
Tems was born in June 1995, which makes her 24 years right now. She will be 25 in June this year. Her birthday is something she is looking forward to. But for now, the music.
The real name of this Nigerian singer is Temilade Openiyi. She shortened it to Tems so fans should have less trouble pronouncing it. The name is now a regular in the news on Nigeria’s alte and RnB universe.
Tems has been associated with several record labels since she popped on the music scene. Among the record labels she has been associated with are Reset Industries, Human Music and Leading Vibe Limited, where she currently is.
Tems is not exactly noisy about the money. And although her exact net worth is not available, she is reportedly one of the millionaires in the music industry in Nigeria.
Boyfriend & Contact
For a popular figure, Tems surely isn’t lacking attention from men. On who her boyfriend might be, she had been silent. But then, as she recently stated during an interview, she doesn’t care for sentiments or distractions but wants to focus on her work – the music – 100 percent.
Tems, who is popularly called the Rebel Gang Leader, is not one to dodge interactions. While she hasn’t made her phone number public, there are other avenues to reach her. She is active on Instagram, where she goes by the handle @TemsBaby and Twitter at the same handle: @temsbaby.
