Tony Sithembiso Yengeni, professionally known as Tony Yengeni, is a South African politician and a former anti-apartheid activist. Tony joined the African National Congress (ANC) in 1976, and later, the congress’ armed wing, Umkhonto we Sizwe. He served as a member of the South African Parliament for the ruling ANC party and as their Chief Whip from 1994 to 2003. He was found guilty of fraud in 2003 in a case linked to the corruption investigation into an arms deal. However, he still remained an ANC member. In 2018, Yengeni was appointed chairperson of the ANC’s crime and corruption committee. Tony served a prison sentence for getting an unlawful discount on a purchased Mercedes Benz.

With over 2,032 votes, Tony was elected to the ANC’s 80-member National Executive Committee in December 2007 in 21st place. He was arrested in October 2001 and released on R10,000 for alleged misuse of power alongside former South African president Jacob Zuma. According to Wikipedia, he was “charged with defrauding parliament by accepting a discount on a luxury car during the tendering process for a controversial arms deal while he was the member of a parliamentary committee reporting on the same deal.” He pleaded “not guilty.”
