Unathi Nkayi is a popular South African singer, songwriter, actress, TV and radio personality, and journalist. She is best known for being a judge on the popular South African singing competition, Idols South Africa. Unathi Nkayi is also an author and a journalist. Her first book, “I Keep Learning” was co-writen by Kabomo and was released on her birthday, the 6th of November 2019.

Unathi Nkayi’s first book was released on her birthday in Novemeber, 2019. It is her memoir and is titled “I Keep Learning”. The book was co-writen by Kabomo who called writing it with Nkayi “a beautiful ride”. The book tells all about Unathi’s life, her tight bond with her family and kids, and the love she shares with the people who she has crossed ways with. It also details her journey through depression, and her recovery process. It talks about abuse towards women, and her success in the media, and in the entertainment industry.

Career

Unathi auditioned for the show, Castle Loud which aired on SABC 1. She landed the role and went on to co-produce it too. This majorly opened doors for her in broadcasting, leading her to work with YFM from 2004 -2020, Metro FM from 2014 to 2017, and Kaya FM in 2020.

Alongside Rowan Cloete, Unathi Nkayi was the co-host of the television series, Popstars. In 2011, she achieved even more recognition after scoring a judge’s seat on the popular singing contest, Idols South Africa. She is currently the longest sitting judge on the show. She has been there through 8 solid seasons and counting.

Unathi attained international status after voicing a character in the Doc McStuffins series, a hit on the channel. She played Rita the Cheetah. Unathi also hosted the popular show, Show Me Love and announced via her Instagram page that her interview with Brenda Mntambo was her second last sit down on the show.
