Asiahn Celebrates Self-love On New EP The Interlude

Bold, boundary-pushing R&B singer/songwriter Asiahn returns with her Since The 80s & Motown debut today with her new EP, The Interlude. Departing from the lovesick, sensual songs that have shined through much of her catalog, this release centers itself on the period of self-discovery and growth that comes after one relationship’s end and before another’s beginning. For the South Carolina-raised, Los Angeles-based artist, this five-song set was a conscious effort to broaden her horizons.

“It’s important that as an artist I not only sing about love,” Asiahn says. “There’s more to life than just being in a relationship and falling in and out of love with others, we also have to fall in love with ourselves and discover what we like and don’t like, explore our sexuality, get drunk and have fun! We have to live!”

True to her word, The Interlude finds Asiahn diving into a whole host of new sounds, styles, and subject matters. The release’s first single “Gucci Frames” is a slow-mo collection of subtle flexes and empowered bars about taking ownership of your life when someone else expects you to feel broken. “Get Away” is an escapist dream of a better world in the arms of a lover, with a warm orchestral instrumental by Dreek Beatz. Elsewhere, she embraces more carnal pleasures on the smoky “Drunk” and the lusty “Messed Up,” enjoying the freedom that uncoupled life can offer. Even though it’s only five songs, The Interlude is a vast release, demonstrating the wide-ranging feelings you can experience when you take a little time to focus on yourself.

This new EP follows Asiahn’s 2019 project Love Train 2, the latest installment in a series that garnered acclaim from taste making outlets like Okayplayer, Billboard, and PAPER, the latter of which once wrote that the singer has “a clear and concise grasp on who she is as a musician and where she wants to be.” The Interlude celebrates a new phase for Asiahn, a period of blossoming and fresh growth. It’s an exciting release, both because of its stellar songs and because it reaffirms that she’s always going to have a hunger for exploration.

About Asiahn:

Raised in Charleston but based in Los Angeles, artist and songwriter Asiahn—pronounced “Ahh-zee-yahn”— knew she needed a break between installments of her beloved Love Train EPs.

Creatively, she was inspired by something new: heartbreak, and picking up the pieces afterwards. Thus, The Interlude—a five-track explosion of talent and control by one of music’s most in-demand creatives—was born. Showcasing new sides to the sultry, boundary-breaking artist, The Interlude tells the story of Asiahn realizing that the break between relationships signified the start of harvest season as she rediscovered herself after heartbreak, bouncing back from the pain and learning to speak her truth in every corner of her life.

With songs like “Messed Up” and “Gucci Frames,” Asiahn is giving you something to fall in love with throughout The Interlude, a project that tells the full story of welcoming vulnerability in service of getting ready to love again. “If I’m going through something hard, I don’t wanna write about it until I’ve healed, because otherwise I’m bringing you into my negative space and I have no resolve for you,” Asiahn says of The Interlude. “And with this project, I wanna make sure I’m giving you just enough to be satisfied, but not enough to be full.”

Asiahn is known for penning hits for massive stars like Jennifer LopezPitbull, DrakeLil Wayne, and Dr. Dre, but with The Love Train series, and now The Interlude, she’s ready to usher you into her own world. “At the end of the day, my music is my identity,” she says. “And I can’t expect anyone else to know what I want to say and how I want to say it. I’m the best person to tell my own stories.”
