Amapiano producers De Mthuda and Sam Deep link up for a song titled “Abo Cheri,” featuring fellow South African Malumnator
It’s a meeting of local champs, and to their credit, they did well as a team. The trio doesn’t have a long collaborative history but they aced their joint jam. The result is that listeners would most likely want to see them work together again. But that’s by the way.
De Mthuda is one of the leading voices in South Africa’s amapiano space – a reality he affirms again and again with sterling releases – including this one. While many musos are quick to appropriate tags for themselves, including “King of Amapiano,” De Mthuda would not follow the same path.
He wouldn’t call himself king of amapiano and he thinks there’s actually no king. This deliberate lack of self promotion takes nothing from the fact he’s a musician worth the time of lovers of good music.
The same – possession of musical sinews so to speak – might be said of the musicians he elected to work with on this song. You can vibe to this number without regrets, so get ready to have a good time if you please. Let the music begin.
