South African disc jockey and producer Heavy K goes heavy in a song tilted “Usile,” featuring compatriots Malumnator, Mbombi and Buckethat Man?
This song is especially significant for Heavy K and indeed for South African music. For one, it is Heavy K’s first amapiano single ever. Before now, the songster has been producing music in the house genre.
The release is also significant, for South African music, in that it shows that amapiano is not backing in appeal. It is gaining new followers from other genres instead. Hip hop, gqom, house…everyone appears to be running into amapiano’s ever expanding orbit
In a sense, “Usile” might be called a response to DJ Maphorisa’s Call that DJs in other genre leap into the world of amapiano.
Before he unleashed the song in review, Heavy K had, during a gig, shown DJ Maphorisa how he transitioned from house music to amapiano. But would Heavy K ditch house music ultimately for amapiano?
