Her releases are noticeably infrequent, but we doubt that anyone would have a quarrel with her releasing a new project, especially one with the title “Frequency.” Meet South Africa singer Rowlene’s new album.
Rowlene is the only known artist signed to Nasty C’s Tall Racks Records. And although she’s not matched the release frequency of her boss, she has managed to stay in the consciousness of many music lovers in the Rainbow Nation.
She might not say it, but her latest compilation is to solidify her position on Mzansi’s music plane after a hiatus in releases. The collection rings RnB and soul and starts on a good note with an eponymous track.
Then there’s “Pretentious,” a collaborative work with Nigeria’s Blaqbonez, “Only,” which featured WurlD (another Nigerian), “Would You Like That,” and “Neverland,” which features yet another Nigerian (Oxlade).
It’s unclear why she didn’t work with a South African on this extended play, but it’s still worth hearing.
