Today, Caroline/VALERIA MUSIC released “Control” Remixes, which finds Swedish duo NOTD (Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara, Demi Lovato, Rihanna) and UK producer/DJ Blinkie (Sam Smith, Mabel, Anne-Marie, Major Lazer) remixing the debut single from 18-year-old Hamburg, Germany-based artist Zoe Wees. The original version of “Control,” which is also included, has amassed over 60 million combined global streams since its release in March. See below for track listing.
Hailed as “an emotional powerhouse of a song” by LADYGUNN, the raw, emotional ballad is autobiographical, telling the story of Wees’ struggle with rolandic childhood epilepsy. While in school, she sometimes had seizures several times a day, leading to exclusion by her peers and a sense of helplessness. Writing “Control” helped Wees process these experiences and allowed her to thank the teacher who helped her through this difficult period.
Wees says, “The sickness was stronger than me, and left scars that have become part of my life. Accepting them has taken so much time, but they make me what I am today: a fighter.”
“Control” will be included on the NOW 75 What’s Next compilation, releasing August 7. The song has been featured on countless playlists worldwide and charted on Spotify’s Viral 50 in 57 countries, including the U.S. Sirius XM has named Wees as a “Hits 1 To Watch” artist. “Control” charted in the top 10 at radio in Germany, Switzerland and other countries and has earned early support from BBC Radio 1 and 2.
Wees, who recently performed for The BRITs “Sunday Spotlight,” has over 25 million combined views on TikTok. In this recent feature, Wonderland observed, “Zoe Wees…has been capturing the imagination of fans worldwide with her deep enthralling vocals and therapeutic rhythms.” Clash said, “Zoe Wees Exudes Promise On ‘Control’…A deft, spartan piano ballad, the gentle curves and undulations of her voice stab home the meaning of each word.”
