RealNetworks, makers of RealPlayer, is announcing a licensing agreement with many Linux software companies to have RealPlayer for Mobile preinstalled on Ubuntu and Instant-On netbook systems made by “Xandros, Phoenix Technologies, DeviceVM, and Canonical.”
RealPlayer includes most codecs, making it a cost-effective choice for netbook manufacturers. Ubuntu has been doing pretty well on netbooks so far, despite early losses to Windows, and an all-in-one media solution could be a godsend if it makes Linux netbooks more appealing to mainstream consumers.
