Mzansi star, Oscar Mbo reflects on the journey since releasing his debut album “Golden Hour” in 2019 as an independent artist.
Sometimes, we dont hear the real story behind the making of the music. Fortunately for us all, hit maker, Oscar Mbo has finally opened up about the journey through creating and releasing his debut album “Golden Hour”.
The ‘Ashmed Hour’ star took to social media to announce the worldwide release of the album on Wax 12 Inch. In the process, he revealed that creating it took so much from him. According to him, he had little resources while making it happen.
He also detailed how hard it is being an independent artist, without having the people who can handle most of the work by his side. Mbo further revealed how he lost interest in the album immediately after it dropped. Fortunately, things have worked out and more fans can get to hear it now. Check the full post out below.
One of my wildest dreams came true today! My debut album ‘Golden Power’ is finally available on Wax 12 inch worldwide. Dropped this album in November 2019 as an independent artist, one of the most draining times of my life. It took all from me – my patience, my drive & my soul. I went through the process of how hard it is to be an independent artist – from the admin, to the finances & straight to not being able to have the person who can do what you need on speed dial (learnt a lot through this). After this album dropped I lost interest on it immediately, yes it channeled me properly – I remember the doors it happened & how I tapped into a new fan base with new shows in and around the country. But each and everytime I used to look back I remembered how it took so much from me and my focus entirely moved into a new phase – 2020 where I started by whole team from scratch, expanded my label @theashmedhour with new goals and targets. Almost 2 years later I’m home listening to this body of work and I’m touched because this is an amazing project that I didn’t want to even proceed pushing into the market based on all the difficulties it put me through, mentally mostly. Thank you to @tokzen_records for making this possible, thank you to @chymamusique for being there for me during all those studio sessions we had, @ofentseza for this amazing design we went forth and back with, @dieselsa for the wardrobe & everyone who supported this gem – I will start bumping it again!
