7 Years After, Emtee Reflects On The Success Of His “Roll Up” Song

What started as a “joke” or a semblance of it turned out to be a massive success for the South African rapper Emtee. The reference here is to his song “Roll Up,” which was recorded exactly seven years ago.

By the rapper’s own account, it was a playful recording. But then it blew up so hard, becoming one of his most memorable songs to date — a massive success so to speak.

So it’s only right that Emtee should reflect on the number almost a decade after it was made and became a success. He reflected on the song’s success, and how wildly it was received, in a post on his official Instagram page, which you can check out below.

Interestingly, in the period since the song was recorded, there have been remarkable changes to Emtee’s life and career. He had left Ambitiouz Entertainment (on an acrimonious note) and now runs a record label of his own to which a musical duo is signed.

But that’s not all. He’s also released several other songs and solidified his grip on the musical scene in South Africa. Unfortunately, his marriage has not been perfect and he’s had several public fights with his wife, Nicole Chinsamy.
