Abuse Allegations: Idols SA Drops Somizi

M-Net, the broadcaster of the reality show Idols SA, has distanced itself from the abuse allegations leveled against one of its judges, Somizi Mhlongo. While not confirming the allegations against Somizi, it made it clears it does not condone abuse.

Somizi stands accused, by his estranged husband Mohale, of emotional and physical abuse.

A statement by Mzansi Magic indicated that Somizi had met with M-Net to discuss his role in Season 17 of the reality show Idols SA. They had reached an agreement for Somizi to take a brief break from the show to deal with his “personal circumstances” until the allegations against him have been resolved.

However, viewers will still get to see Somizi until August 22 because the audition was prerecorded.

The announcement of his exit from the show elicited mixed reactions from social media users. While some supported his exit until further notice, others were grieved because they describe him as a quality judge and his exit might affect the judging process.

By the way, Metro FM has also announced a temporary termination of their contract with Somizi.
