AKA On Illegal Immigrants In South Africa

Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, the South African rapper who goes by the stage name AKA, has shared his two cents on illegal immigrants in South Africa.

The subject of illegal immigrants in South Africa has occupied discussion portals in the Rainbow Nation for a while, with disparate narratives trying to either justify it, condemn it or simply explain it away.

AKA is for South Africa having secure borders. And yes, according to him, securing South African borders, or calling for securing the same, does not make one xenophobic. In a follow-up tweet, he had asked the authorities to protect South African borders at all costs. You can check out the tweets below.

South Africa contends with a serious crime problem. And the local population thinks that illegal immigrants are the reason for the surge in crime. Having them out of the country, they believe, would partly address the crime situation.

Elsewhere, ad advocacy dubbed Operation Dudula and headed by Nhlanhla Lux is pushing against illegal immigrants in the country, even resorting to violence to ensure that foreigners leave the country.

It remains to be seen if the South African government will listen to AKA and those with similar views on immigration and illegal immigrants.
