AKA Opens Up About His Depression And And Choices He Has Made

Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, the South African rapper who goes by the stage name of AKA, has just revealed his battles with depression, encouraging others not to give up the fight.

The “Fela in Versace” hitmaker made this revelation in recent posts to his Instagram Story. According to him, he was diagnosed with clinical depression “many, many months ago.”

It cannot be determined exactly when the problem started, but since he didn’t mention years or even a year, it is likely to be around the period he lost his girlfriend Nelli Tembe in apparent suicide (April 11). Or earlier. Nelli Tembe, the daughter of a prominent Durban businessman, had reportedly jumped to her death from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub hotel in Cape Town.

Well, besides confessing his battles with clinical depression, the songster also shared the drug he’s taking to fight it (Wellbutrin XL 150). He couldn’t handle the issue, which made him feel like he couldn’t feel. So he sought help.

His fans were in the comment section to wish him a quick recovery. Others used it as an opportunity to abuse him. An unimpressed Instagram user linked his depression to Karma, noting AKA had insulted Cassper Nyovest’s parents.

We hope you recover soon, Kiernan.
