AmaZulu Grabs First Final Since 1976 As Kaizer Chiefs Crash Out Of MTN8

Seeing chiefs without their lurid robes might appear ironic, but that’s the reality on the ground for local football side Kaizer Chiefs, having been ousted from the MTN8 over the weekend.

While the yellow side agonized over their failure to advance further, AmaZulu are in a celebratory mood because they are the direct beneficiaries of Kaizer Chiefs’ failure.

The two sides faced off at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday. Although the match ended in a 1-1 draw, it was enough for AmaZulu to advance to the MTN8 final – not so for Kaizer Chiefs, who crashed out for not having a superior number.

AmaZulu had Mothwa, Sikhakhane, Hanamub, Mphahlele, Mobara, Makhaula, Bwayla, Maluleka, Kwem, Maduna, and Mhango as their first 11 for the encounter, with the likes of Amonome, Mabiliso, Zulu, Gumede, Buchanan, Brooks, Kunene, Ndlovu, Majoro as substitutes.

In contrast, Kaizer Chiefs had Petersen, Frosler, Dove, Kwinika, Hlanti, Blom, Maart, Dolly, Sekgota, Du Preez, Bimenyimana, with Bvuma, Mathoho, Billiat, Alexander, Ngezana, Sithebe, Ngcobo, Matlou, Solomons as substitutes.

The encounter was especially significant for AmaZulu because it broke the jink of never having advanced to the final since 1976. So now they are in for the final of the MTN8 – their first in more than four decades.
