ANC New Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula Issues Stern Warning

He has only just been elected as secretary-general of the ruling African National Congress, by Fikile Mbalula is already blowing hot and issuing warnings to those who might want to step out of line.

Well, given that he is the self-proclaimed “Commander of Discipline in the ANC,” maybe his recent eruptions shouldn’t be surprising.

Following his election as secretary-general, Mbalula, who is serving as South Africa’s minister of transport, had held his first-ever press briefing in that position, warning those who broke ranks and worked for the adoption of the Phala Phala report in parliament.

The Phala Phala report is the recommendation of an investigative panel headed by a former South African chief justice. The investigation sought to unravel what happened at the president’s Phala Phala farm in 2020, where millions of dollars had allegedly been stolen – and then recovered quietly without the president informing the police as he should.

Former police chief Arthur Fraser has blown the lid on the heist and provided CCTV footage and other evidence to back up his claims.

With Mbalula’s warning, it remains to be seen whether those he warned would fall in line and continue to toe the part of the party with Cyril Ramaphosa as the leader.
