Andy Murray Pulls Off On-Court Coup, Bests Thanasi Kokkinakis At The Australian Open

Nothing tastes as sweet as a victory, especially when one is not expected to win or got off to an unimpressive start. That’s exactly the case with Andy Murray, who pulled off a coup of sorts, pulled on a late sow, to beat rival Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Australian Open.

Understandably, his delight in victory is best imagined.

With impressive serves through the third set of their second-round encounter, opinions mostly favoured the Australian to clinch victory. But then Andy Murray had this outsized confidence in his game, reinforced by an obdurate refusal to lose.

It would serve him right in the court in what was unarguably the longest match of his career – at five hours and 45 minutes. The Briton ultimately triumphed 4-6 6-7 (4) 7-6 (5) 6-3 7-5.

Both Murray and  Thanasi Kokkinakis were given time violations by umpire Eva Asderaki-Moore during their encounter at the Margaret Court Arena in Australia. And they both weren’t happy with the strike.

For Andy Murray, though, a victory at the end of the day was somewhat mollifying as it somehow takes away memories of the strike.

With his recent win against Thanasi Kokkinakis, Andy Murray once again amplifies his position as one of the best tennis players out there. Some solidarity.
