Angelique Kidjo Clinches Grammy Award, Praises Yemi Alade, Mr. Eazi, Burna Boy

Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo has won another Grammy award, and she’s more than chuffed with her victory. Who wouldn’t be?

The songstress had been nominated in the best global album category for her album “Mother Nature” and actually went home with the award. In her victory, she was notably magnanimous and shouted out other musicians who she thinks have the world just ahead of them.

Among those she spoke of in her acceptance speech and praised for the talent they have brought to the art are the Nigeria Burna Boy, who was nominated in the same category but lost, Yemi Alade, and Mr Eazi.

In the case of Burna Boy, it wasn’t the first time the Beninese singer had praised him fn acknowledged his contributions to the music industry in Africa. She had praised him years back when she beat him to another Grammy.

Burna Boy had bounced back a year after that, winning a Grammy for his album “Twice as Tall.” But the plaque eluded him this time.

Angelique is one of the very few musicians from Benin Republic who are recognised on a global stage. The songstress has been unstable since she burst into the music scene.

It’ll be interesting to see what the coming years hold for her career.
