Anger, Complaints Trail DSTV Over Subscriptions And Treatment Of eMedia

Anger is currently being among DStv subscribers over what they consider exploitation by the network.

Besides the complaint about the increase in subscription fees, some subscribers are miffed that they still do not have access to some Chan els while paying “heavy” subscription fees.

One user expressed the wish that subscribers would be allowed to pay for why they watch and not list put out there by the network.

On the ongoing controversy, the  Nigerian lawyer Inibehe Effiong noted that the DStv network was exploiting Nigerians by forcing them to subscribe to periodic packages which expire whether they’re used or not.

This isn’t the first time complaints have erupted about DStv and its subscription model, however. Also, the complaints aren’t restricted to Nigeria and South Africa. See the screenshots.

In other related news, eMedia, the parent company of etv, has accused DStv of bullying and uncompetitive behaviour. It claimed the DStv network failed to renew the contra t to carry out eMedia entertainment channels after the expiration of a five-year contract in May.

It described the action as uncompetitive, adding that it hurts eMedia’s income potential.

However, according to MultiChoice, there were legitimate commercial reasons not to renew the eMedia channels.
