“Answered Prayer” – Idol SA’s Yanga Sobetwa Celebrates Leaving Gallo Records

Former Idols SA winner Yanga Sobetwa has just celebrated leaving Gallo Records – one of the oldest record labels in South Africa.

In a recent post on her Instagram page, she noted that she was not with Gallo Records anymore. The clip showed a smiling, apparently relieved singer, content in no longer being with the record label she had an automatic recording contract with following her Idols SA win years ago.

In the caption to her post, the songstress officially announced her departure from the record label, noting that she is now an independent artist.

She further noted that her exit is an answered prayer on her part and urged her fans to celebrate with her – indicating that she had always wanted to exit the record label, but it has only just become possible.

She gave no reason for her exit but merely noted that she would write about it someday. She also acknowledged that being an independent artist is not easy, but at least it comes with little pleasures, including being able to have control over one’s music without external approval.

Yanga hasn’t been particularly active musically of recent, which brings to mind what many call the Idols SA curse: most of those who win lose musical relevance soon after.
