Antoine Fuqua Talks Apple’s Release Of Will Smith’s Emancipation Flick

Film director Antoine Fuqua has shared some details about the release of Will Smith’s film Emancipation despite the controversy generated by the actor slapping comedian Chris Rock during the Oscars in March this year.

Will Smith ignited controversy back in March when he stormed the podium and stunned Chris Rock with an admonitory whack on the face. The comedian had made jokes about Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia, calling her G.I, Jane, a reference to a movie character.

The words stung the actor, who marched to the stage and assaulted the comedian. He earned a ten-year ban by the award body, which also forbid him from participating in its events, virtually and in person.

This month, Will Smith expressed a deep desire that those working on his Emancipation film would not be penalized because of his actions in March this year. He expressed that hope amid calls to boycott his film.

Anyway, he got a semblance of a favour from Apple, which had no plans about stopping the film’s release, according to Fuqua. The director noted that there was no conversation with able about the film not being released.

That stands as a triumph of sorts for Will Smith, who appears contrite for the March debacle.
