“Apollo Creed” Actor Carl Weathers, Dies At 76

“Rocky” actor Carl Weathers, known for playing Apollo Creed, has reportedly died at 76.

The family of American actor Carl Weathers has announced his passing. He is best known for starring as Apollo Creed in the Rocky films. Weathers also played roles in the 1987 film “Predator” alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Adam Sandler comedy “Happy Gilmore,” and several other films.

His family shared a statement that read,

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024.” It continued,

“Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts, and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”

His “Rocky” co-star Sylvester Stallone shared a tribute video and said it was “an incredibly sad day” for him.

“Carl Weathers was such an integral part of my life, my success … I give him incredible credit. When he walked into that room, and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness, but I didn’t realise how great.”

“I never could have accomplished what we did with Rocky without him. He was absolutely brilliant. Rest in power and keep punching.”
