Remember when DJ Maphorisa warned every other artist releasing music the same day as Kabza? Well, he was right. Kabza De Small’s new album really messed every other release up as expected.
According to new reports by Apple Music, Kabza’s new “I Am The King Of Amapiano” album is the biggest release in SA ever. It was confirmed by Karl Anderson, Apple Music’s Head of Music Africa who stated:
Kabza De Small’s album is the biggest local South African album first day and first week.
The two week old album recorded 8 million streams on digital platforms (YouTube and Mobile Ringback tunes excluded) when it came out. This was a first in the history of SA music. All 26 tracks of the album made the top 30 of the iTunes chart. It is still steady charting in the top 5 of the albums chart.
Chris Ghelakis of Electromode Distribution had this to say about it,
It’s fantastic for Electromode to have a record like this, unbelievable! In all my years in the music industry, I never thought this was possible. The digital age has taken South African music to another level. Well done to Kabza!
Kabza, reacted to breaking the records by saying,
It’s an amazing feeling to know that music is finally being heard and that the years of work are finally paying off. Seeing comments like these and the statistics with the records we’re breaking, makes it all worth it. I would like to thank my fans, my family, and my team.
