Apple Music Home Session features Afropop singer, Adekunle Gold

Apple Music’s Home Session features reimagined signature songs and thoughtful covers recorded by artists at home and today, Nigerian Afropop singer and songwriter, Adekunle Gold, releases his own stripped down Home Session.

“Lockdown taught me that I was good at what I did without external validation. I had to do everything solo without outside stimulation, and that self-validation is so vital for artistry. Now I’ve learnt to appreciate the outside more. Part of artistry is paying attention to things but what happens when you have nothing to pay attention to but not catching COVID-19? Yeah, I’m thankful we are outside now,” Gold tells Apple Music.

“I pick my songs according to my appetite. At the moment I’m feeling a bit tender I guess and those are the songs that fit my mood,” he says.

The Home Session EP, available to stream on Apple Music in Spatial Audio, will feature three exclusive unplugged tracks from the bold vocalist, including two tracks (“Sinner” and “One Woman”) off his latest album Catch Me If You Can, and one cover of Joy Oladokun’s track “Sunday”.

“The process of writing and making music is usually stripped back. I feel really great getting to do this again, stripped back but enjoyable in Dolby Atmos. Hope my fans on Apple Music enjoy it as much as I did making it.”

Gold became a viral sensation after the release of his hit single “Sade” (2015), a highlife cover of One Direction’s “Story of My Life”. His debut album Gold (2015) also earned him worldwide acclaim, debuting at No.7 on the Billboard World Albums chart and producing two smash singles, “Orente” and “Pick Up”.
