Baxter Speaks As Chiefs Beat Pirates At The Soweto Derby

PSL rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates continued their rivalry at the DStv Premiership Soweto derby yesterday, Saturday, that ended 2-1, with victory for the Chiefs.

Called a derby of mistakes because several errors were made, especially by the Pirates’ side, the match, which held at the near empty FNB Stadium, will remain in the memory of fans for a long time to come.

Of particular note was the Nigerian centreback Olisa Nda fouling Khama Billiat in the box in the 91st minute, which allowed the Chief’s to ride home to victory.

The teams had mimicked each other in tactical formation. For much of the game, in matters possession, the Pirates had the upper hand. But it wasn’t enough to give them victory. In the end, the Chief’s managed to beat them at FNB.

Recalling how both teams played and how his team had won, Chiefs’ coach Stuart Baxter commended his boy, stating they did well and deserved their victory. He noted his team opened the game on a good note, and their passing, possession and counter pressing was great.

He admitted his boys were passive at some point, which encouraged to play forward without much pressure. Fortunately, for his team, the Pirates didn’t win the day.
