Bayer Leverkusen Targeting Benfica’s Grimaldo

Bayer Leverkusen is targeting Benfica’s Alejandro Grimaldo to sign him.

According to AS, Bayer Leverkusen is looking to sign Benfica’s Alejandro Grimaldo, who has been doing well in Portugal, after it became evident that they cannot sign Fran Garcia. Garcia was recently signed by Real Madrid, and will become the club’s first signing of next season.

BeSoccer reports that the defender is in the spotlight, as clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and Juventus have got their eyes on him. Former Madrid academy coach Xabi Alonso plans for him to be a part of their new projects. This season, Grimaldo has played 34 competitive matches. For Benfica, he scored five goals and provided seven assists.

The 27-year-old Spanish football star has played as a left-back for the Primeira Liga club since he was signed in 2015. He played his first game with the team on January 26, 2016. Along with Dortmund’s Raphäel Guerreiro and Gladbach’s Ramy Bensebaini, Grimaldo is one of three left-backs in European football with a €20 million market value whose contracts are expiring.
