Bheki Cele’s Reassurances Of “Cracking” AKA’s Murder Case Leaves Mzansi Unimpressed

South Africa’s police affairs minister Bheki Cel has given some insight into the investigation of the murder of celebrated South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, noting that the police are close to cracking the case.

AKA, famous for several numbers including “Lemons (Lemonade),” was shot dead at point-blank range just after stepping out of Wish restaurant in the company of his associates including his former manager, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, who was killed along with him.

The news – and indeed the circumstance of his death – sent shockwaves across South Africa, with many calling for the fishing out of his killers. The weeks passed and fans began trending the hashtag #JustiveForAKA to ensure that the case is not swept under the carpet.

While Bheki’s latest comments appeared to have raised hopes in some quarters, others are not impressed. As far as they are concerned, the chances of the police doing the right thing and exposing the killers are pretty slim.

Bheki Cele’s reassurances come at a time many are already apprehensive the case would not be solved. Some pointed to the killing of Oupa John Sefoka (DJ Sumbody) last year, and how the police have been unable to resolve it. now, how could they be trusted with AKA’s case?
