Billboard To Launch New Afrobeats Songs Chart

There is a piece of good news on the horizon for afrobeat lovers around the world. American music magazine Billboard is launching a music chart dedicated to afrobeat in the United States.

Billboard announced the new chart in a post to its official Instagram account and affirmed the same with an official statement on its website. The magazine is launching the chart in association with Afro Nation.

Announced yesterday, Tuesday, March 22, it’s the first-ever afrobeat chart in the United States. So, it’s significant not just for the afrobeat community in the United States but around the world.

In particular, there is great excitement in Nigeria following the announcement of the imminent addition of the afrobeat chart to the Billboard network.

Afrobeat originated in Nigeria but has since spread to other parts of the world, including Tanzania and the United States. Fireboy DML, Wizkid, and Davido are among the notable afrobeat voices in Nigeria.

By the way, according to Billboard, the afrobeat songs chart will go live on the Billboard platform on March 29 – exactly six days from now. Expectations are high already. It’d be a career milestone to whoever will pop on the number 1 spot at launch on March 29.
