Black Coffee Reveals That National Lockdown Helped Him Deal With His Divorce

Internationally-acclaimed disc jockey and record producer, Black Coffee, recently revealed the lessons that he has learnt during the lockdown period. This was while he was part of an Instagram Live interview with Scoop Makhathini.

The multi-award-winning record producer revealed that the national lockdown has granted him the opportunity to spend more time with his son, to reflect on his divorce with Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa and to work effortlessly towards perfecting his upcoming album. He further revealed that he had received the divorce request while he was touring. This didn’t grant him the opportunity to sit down, reflect, and deal with his current situation.

Black Coffee said:

Last year I had been on the road like crazy, travelling at the worst time of my life…when I was going through a divorce. So I never had time to take things in, because I had to wake up and go to work every day.

I am a winner and this is one thing I thought I would win at, but I failed.

The talented DJ stated that the lockdown has given him the chance to ask himself ‘uncomfortable questions’ and an example of such is the question of what he contributed to his ‘loss.’

He further said:

This is a blessing for me to be at home. Now I start asking myself the right questions…what we do as people to blame the next person, to keep pointing fingers. It was so easy to blame the next person and tell myself it’s not my fault it didn’t work out.

Black Coffee also spoke about his upcoming album, which features Sun-El Musician, Pharrell Williams, Kelly Rowland, and a host of others.

He said:

Being at home has helped me in refining it (album). I have different people helping me, one of them being Sun-El Musician, who’s really brilliant. We keep working on the album and I think it’s going to be an amazing one.

He talked about his Home Brewed series which seeks to raise funds for several charities during the coronavirus pandemic.

Every weekend, moving forward, I want to invite a friend who can come on board and give a significant amount of money to help whatever course.

Black Coffee revealed that he plans on inviting American rapper, Swizz Beatz, to assist in raising funds.
