He had a massive hit in 1978 with “What You Won’t Do for Love,” which peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 6 on the Hot Selling Soul Singles chart. Caldwell was born on August 15, 1951, in New York City and grew up in Miami, Florida. He began his musical journey in the 1970s, playing in local clubs and bars before catching the attention of TK Records, a Miami-based record label.
